The reintroduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by the Lagos State Government on Saturday 25th April, 2025, recorded a huge turnout in Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area with the Executive Chairman, Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo, driving compliance across the council.
The exercise, which ran from 6:30am to 8:30am, saw residents, CDAs, CDCs, market associations and youth groups actively cleaning drainages, clearing refuse and desilting gutters within their communities.
Representing the helmsman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Agbeyangi Andrew Olaoluwa, and the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Lawal Afeez Kelvin, monitored the exercise and commended residents for their commitment to ensuring its success. They conveyed the Chairman’s message that the level of compliance was highly commendable and signals the community’s readiness for a cleaner, healthier environment.
Speaking on the importance of regular desilting of canals and drainages, the Head of Environmental Services in Itire-Ikate LCDA, Sanitarian Babawunmi Olanike, stated that the Executive Chairman has zero tolerance for unhealthy environments. She appreciated the public for their impressive compliance and urged sustained action to prevent flooding and disease outbreaks.
Speaking during the monitoring, the Head of Enforcement for the Ijora-Badagry Axis of LAWMA, Mr. Oladeji Adebayo Mogaji, said he was highly impressed with the compliance level in Itire-Ikate LCDA, adding that the community has set a worthy example for others to emulate.
The Chairman, through his representatives, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a sustainable environment through continuous sensitization, enforcement and community engagement.
Residents were urged to maintain the culture of cleanliness beyond the exercise day, with the charge that “a clean Itire-Ikate is our collective responsibility.”
