The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Oluwafemi Odunayo Daniel, on Monday celebrated belated Workers’ Day 2026 with staff of the council, announcing welfare gains and empowering eight workers with sewing and pepper mill machines.
The event held at the LCDA Secretariat, combined the May Monthly Prayer session with Workers’ Day activities. It was organised by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Itire-Ikate chapter, with full support of the council leadership.
In his address, NULGE Chairman, Comrade Adebayo Solomon, commended Hon. Odunayo for his “consistent support for staff welfare,” listing seven key achievements under his executive. These include the increase of Staff Welfare from ₦30,000 to ₦50,000, raise of Welfare Allocation from ₦700,000 to ₦1,000,000, monthly palliative financial support and payment of the highest December bonus in Lagos State for 2024 and 2025.
Comrade Solomon also cited the procurement of two staff buses — the NULGE Bus plying Secretariat–Ikotun route and the Coastal Bus from Council Secretariat to Oshodi — both fueled monthly by the council. He further noted the introduction of monthly birthday celebrations and distribution of customized NULGE sachet water to all offices.
The NULGE Chairman, however, tabled pending requests before the Executive Chairman. These include construction of a staff canteen, building of a Christian Chapel, and improvement of financial assistance to staff.
A guest speaker, Engr. Adekunle Raphael of Rapcon Investment Ltd, delivered a lecture on retirement planning. He explained land ownership schemes for civil servants tied to salary, and the National Housing Scheme accessible through monthly deductions.
Council Manager, Mrs. Ajose Esther, described Hon. Odunayo as a “worker-friendly Chairman,” and urged staff to be punctual, especially on Fridays, and to comply with voter card registration. Vice Chairman, Hon. Yetunde Jimba, thanked staff for their contributions to the council’s success.
In his remarks, Hon. Odunayo appreciated staff for their diligence and charged them to maintain unity and improve service delivery to move Itire-Ikate LCDA forward.
